“Let choice whisper in your ear and love murmur in your heart. Be ready. Here comes life.”

—Maya Angelou

Hello! I'm Chelsie Duckworth, Owner and Doula behind Birth Space KC.

I have carried a passion for reproductive justice for as long as I can remember.  It led me to a dual B.A. in Women, Gender, and Sexuality studies and Spanish and to so many wonderful organizations and individuals that I will forever be grateful for knowing. What brought me to birth & postpartum work was my own experience with doulas. These amazing women supported me through both of my births with their evidence-based knowledge, their comforting touch, their constant encouragement, and reassurance. They made all the difference for me and my husband and I knew I wanted to be that compassionate support for others.

This work requires a lot of creativity and connection. What it means to have a successful, positive birth varies with every single family. As a doula and educator, I love helping clients explore their own beliefs about birth and discover what they really hope for in their own experience. We work together to create an environment that will leave them feeling connected to their journey, to their partners, and to baby. At each birth, regardless of any plan changes made along the way, there is a special opportunity to bring a new life and a new identity into a space that is filled with compassion, love, and respect.
